About Active Plus:
Roughly 40% of public school children age 14 or younger in the city are overweight or obese and approximately 20% of NYC youth aged 5-17 are estimated to have a mental health disorder, with minority and low-income children disproportionately affected in both categories. These early-life issues can and do have harmful lasting effects, including serious chronic physical and mental health problems and increased mortality rates.
Active Plus is a New York City-based non-profit dedicated to improving physical, mental, and emotional health and wellness among youth within at-risk local communities. Since 2015, we have designed and delivered engaging programming focused on fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, and life & leadership.
We believe that Active Plus is not just a non-profit tackling a community need, but an organization in the field of emergency response. Our work on behalf of at-risk youth has never been more urgent than it is today. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused tremendous suffering for families across the globe, and there are few communities that have been hurt worse than low-income areas of New York City. If we act now, we at Active Plus believe we can deliver truly life-saving health and fitness education to those who need it most.
